Product Description

Physical and chemical properties: propylene glycol, scientific name "1,2-propanediol". Chemical formula CH3CHOHCH2OH. Molecular weight 76.10. There is a chiral carbon atom in the molecule. Racemates are hygroscopic, viscous liquids with a slightly spicy taste. The specific gravity is 1.036 (25/4 °C), and the freezing point is -59 °C. Boiling point 188.2 °C, 83.2 °C (1,333 Pa Chemicalbook), miscible in water, acetone, ethyl acetate and chloroform, soluble in ether. Soluble in many essential oils, but immiscible with petroleum ethers, paraffins and oils. It is more stable to heat and light, and more stable at low temperature. The boiling point of the left-handed body is 187~189 °C, and the specific optical rotation [α] D20-15.0 °. Propylene glycol can be oxidized to propionaldehyde, lactic acid, pyruvate and acetic acid at high temperatures.
Medicinal properties and application of propylene glycol solubility has good performance, less toxicity and irritation, widely used as a solvent, extraction solvent and preservative for injections (such as intramuscular injections, intravenous injections) and non-injectable pharmaceutical preparations (such as oral liquid, ophthalmic preparations, ear preparations, dental preparations, rectovaginal preparations, transdermal preparations, etc.), is a better solvent than glycerol, can dissolve many substances such as cortical sterols (sex hormones), chloramphenicol, sulfonamides, barbiturates, reserpine, quinidine, dehydrocorticosterone acetate, Fumarate sulfate, nitrogen mustard hydrochloride, vitamin A, vitamin D, many volatile oils, most alkaloids, and many local anesthetics. Propylene glycol is similar to ethanol as a bacteriostatic agent, and its effect on mold inhibition is similar to that of glycerol and slightly lower than that of ethanol. Propylene glycol is commonly used as a plasticizer for aqueous film coating materials. The same amount of Chemicalbook mixed solution with water can delay the hydrolysis of some drugs and increase the stability of the preparation product. 15%~30% propylene glycol solution and semi-solid preparations can be used as antibacterial preservatives, about 15% of propylene glycol topical preparations can be used as moisturizers, 10%~30% propylene glycol aerosol solvents, 10%~25% propylene glycol oral solutions, 10%~60% of injection preparations, and 5%~80% topical preparations should be used as solvents and co-solvents. Stability and storage conditionsExtremely stable at room temperature, but oxidized at high temperature (above 280 °C) when left open; When mixed with 95% ethanol or water, it is chemically stable; Can be autoclaved or filter-sterilized. Propylene glycol is hygroscopic and should be stored in a cool and dry place, away from light and in a closed container. Compatibility contraindicationsThere are compatibility contraindications with some oxidants (such as potassium permanganate).
Toxicity. FAO/WHO(2000):ADI0~25mg/kg. LD5022~23.9mg/kg (mouse, oral). GRAS(FDA,§184.1666,2000). Use limit FAO/WHO (1984): Dairy farmer's cheese with a whipped cream mixture of 5 g/kg (alone or in combination with other carriers and stabilizers). Japan (1998): Raw noodles and chemical book strips, raw filling, and smoked cuttlefish ≤2%; The skins of dumplings, siu mai, spring rolls, wontons, etc. ≤ 1.2%; Other food ≤ 0.6%. GB2760~96: pastry 3.0g/kg, gum gum FDA, §184.1666 (2000): alcoholic beverage 5%; confectionery and frosting 24%; frozen dairy 2.5%; flavoring agents, flavor enhancers, 97%; nuts and nut products 5%; Other food products 2.0%.
